SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Three Yankton County farmers, Karl Schenk, Jay Cutts and Craig Johnson all have permit applications for 2,400 head hog finishing barns. The permit applications are for a Class E CAFO permit (960 Animal Units). The barns met the Yankton County’s required setbacks from their nearest neighbors.
Opportunities are endless for South Dakota farm families to finish hogs with the addition of the new pork processing plant that will be opening later this summer in Sioux City. In addition, as animal ag grows, so do marketing opportunities for corn and soybeans.
The applications for the three farmers will be heard by the Yankton County Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday, June, 13th at 7:00 pm at the Yankton County Government Center located in downtown Yankton. The agenda on the applications can be viewed here. We understand that early summer can be a busy time, however, if you have the time we would encourage you to attend the hearing to support these three Yankton County families.
