MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board is pleased to announce Francesca Frederick as the winner of their 2021 $1,000 dairy youth scholarship. Frederick studied at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville majoring Animal Science with an Agricultural Business minor.
Frederick was actively involved in Sigma Alpha, Block and Bridle, Agribusiness Club and Ag Council at UW-Platteville, holding numerous office positions. Additionally, she has worked at Wilson Prairie View Hog Farms and Enloe Dairy LLC, being a primary caregiving to piglets and calves. For two summers, Frederick was a part of the milking demonstration crew at the Wisconsin State Fair.
“This job is important because the fairgoers that come through Dairy Lane and/or watch a milking demo might not have another opportunity to see cows, calves, and goats, or hear about the state of Wisconsin’s dairy industry,” states Frederick. “We have to be friendly, approachable, outgoing, and enthusiastic so fairgoers have a positive experience and take valuable information and understanding about the dairy industry back to their homes and communities,”.
“It is a core pillar of our organization to provide recognition to outstanding dairy cattle and goat youth at the Wisconsin State Fair. While the past year has been one of limited chances to celebrate youth in person, we are excited to be able to continue to present this scholarship,” says Nicole Barlass, President of the Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board.
The Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board is made up of individuals passionate about promoting Wisconsin’s $45.6 billion dairy industry during the Wisconsin State Fair. Providing educational opportunities for attendees with its interactive Dairy Lane exhibit and cow and goat milking demonstrations while also managing the Real Wisconsin Cheese Grill and Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction, the board helps fund scholarships for students pursuing careers in the dairy industry, and offers volunteer opportunities for dairy youth to get involved.
