JEFFERSON CITY — In addition to the MCGA annual meeting, several regional winter meetings brought growers together for the latest corn industry updates.
District 6 Winter Meeting – Drawing over 65 attendees at American Legion in St. Peters Jan. 17, this district meeting was a success thanks to a large crowd, good fried chicken and a presentation on the state of the ethanol industry by Geoff Cooper of the Renewable Fuels Association. Thank you to all who attended and helped coordinate this event.
District 1 Winter Meeting – Growers in northwest Missouri gathered on Missouri Western’s campus Thursday, Jan. 19. A new format for this year’s annual event drew an even bigger crowed than recent years. A market outlook panel was moderated by National Association of Farm Broadcasting Executive Director Tom Brand and featured: Dan Basse, AgResource Consulting; Alan Brugler, Brugler Marketing & Management; Andrew Shissler, S & W Trading; and Joe Vaclavik, Standard Grain. Panelists were able to give a variety of perspectives about what farmers could expect in the next year and beyond. A weather outlook presented by Bryce Anderson with DTN followed the all-star panel. Thank you to Missouri Corn board member Morris Heitman for serving as emcee and to the Northwest Missouri Corn Growers for hosting another great meeting!
District 5 Winter Meeting – Hosted by outgoing board member Kurtis Gregory Jan. 26 in Blackburn, Missouri Corn welcomed a great turnout. While enjoying a fish fry, attendees were briefed on current federal and state policy issues by MCGA Director of Public Policy Shane Kinne. Kurtis was also presented with the 2016 Top Recruiter award as well as an appreciation plaque for his service on the Missouri Corn board of directors.
District 4 Winter Meeting – Southcentral Missouri growers gathered at Brice Fischer’s farm in Butler Feb. 9 for the District 4 annual fish fry and updates on membership, marketing and policy programs. Missouri Farm Bureau was celebrating Thank A Farmer Week and graciously donated desserts for the event. Thank you to Brice, Kevin and Mary Fischer for hosting yet another successful event.
