ST. ALBANS, Vt. — The University of Vermont (UVM) Extension’s Northwest Crops and Soils Program has invited a number of experts to speak to farmers at its annual winter farm meeting, March 7 in St. Albans.
The meeting will be held at Champlain Valley Equipment (7 Franklin Park West), which also will provide lunch for all registered participants. Additional sponsors include Friends of Northern Lake Champlain and the Franklin and Grand Isle Farmer’s Watershed Alliance.
Although there is no charge to attend, farmers are asked to register by March 2. Registrations can be made online at wintermeeting.eventbrite.com or by calling Susan Brouillette at (802) 524-6501, ext. 432.
Anyone requiring a disability-related accommodation to attend should call by Feb. 21. Attendees will earn four water quality training and four custom manure applicator credits.
The program, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will cover a wide range of agronomic topics including riparian bank management, roll and crimp technology, soil health, conservation tillage, manure application and grassed waterways. In addition, farmers will get updates on tile drainage research and proposed regulations, phosphorus reductions and UVM crops and soils research and hear what’s being done on farms to ensure clean watersheds.
