RAPID CITY, S.D. — The South Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Wildland Fire Division announces the winners of the South Dakota Wildfire Awareness Month’s Coloring Contest. Congratulations to Aubrie Smith of Castlewood for winning the three to seven age group and Gwen Smith of Lake Norden for winning the eight to twelve age group. Each winner will be awarded a plush Smokey Bear toy.
The contest theme was, “Wildfires are coming. Are you ready?” South Dakota Wildfire Awareness Month is planned by interagency cooperation and was created to promote wildfire awareness, safety, and prevention through public education to remind citizens of the dangers of wildland fires and the simple steps that should be followed to prepare for and prevent them.
