POTSDAM, N.Y. — Garrett Kopp of Birch Boys Chaga Tea and the Local Living Venture are arranging carpools and caravans from Potsdam/Canton and other points for an informative session identifying and sampling the most prominent and tasty edible plants, roots, berries and fungi in the Adirondack Region.
The Wild Edible Adirondack Salad workshop will be held on Saturday, September 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Birch Boys storefront at 123 Park Street in Tupper Lake, NY. Reservations are appreciated in order to plan the “menu” and coordinate carpooling for those interested.
The wild edible Chaga mushroom is one of many wild edibles that will be featured at the event. Chaga can be made into a delicious tea in the traditional way of the Adirondacks and will be available as well as many other plants one can forage for.
Presenter Garrett Kopp is the founder and owner of Birch Boys Chaga LLC in Tupper Lake. He is a junior at Clarkson University studying Innovation and Entrepreneurship. By starting a sustainable chaga industry in his home town, his dream is to leave a positive footprint on the health food industry.
This is a “hands-on” event and the workshop is accessible for those with limited mobility. Bring your camera, notepad, curiosity and questions for the presenter, who is New York State’s first Department of Ag & Markets certified mushroom identification expert.
A suggested free will donation is requested to benefit Local Living Venture workshop creation. $24 for general public includes a materials fee for the samples that attendees will take home. There is a discount of $45 as a family rate for two people, and $12 student. Partial scholarships (less material costs) are available upon request.
Registering for the course is suggested for materials planning. Email confirmation will be sent to all registrants within 24-48 hours.
To register, send an email to LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com or call (315) 347-4223 to reserve a spot, noting the number in party, contact phone number and email address when reserving. If you wish to car pool, please indicate so when signing up.
