POTSDAM, N.Y. — Most people would not believe how inexpensive it can be to dine on the healthiest of whole foods, in a way that is both nutritious and delicious – as well as highly creative!
Dried beans and whole grains create a complete protein meal for as little as 28 cents a serving, but cooking these wholesome foods often seems daunting to many people who haven’t done it before.
These mysteries will be solved at the Nutritious/Delicious (and Cheap!) Cooking Seminar: How to Cook Beans & Grains, to be held near Potsdam, NY on Wednesday, December 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Bring your appetite, participants will build a series of meals and then enjoy their many wonderful creations during this workshop geared to making a lowly pot of beans an innovative and enjoyable meal that can be enjoyed over and over, but is different every time.
Presenters Paula Youmell, RN and Chelle Lindahl of the Local Living Venture make it fun and easy to eat these most delicious and healthy of foods. They will share many secrets of the healthy and happy kitchen with participants, as well as fun ways to make beans, grains and seasonal foods a meal your family can look forward to, even if you’re on a budget and need to eat inexpensively every night of the week!
Co-sponsoring the event is Certified Health Education and Lifetime Wellness/Fitness Teacher Paula Youmell, RN and the Potsdam Food Co-op at 24 Elm St., Potsdam, NY; purveyor of local, natural and healthful foods, open from 8 a.m to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
A $22 donation level for workshop attendance is suggested for adults, with a discount to $40 for a couple, $10 for students. Partial scholarship is available upon request. Class size is limited, so attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with pre-registered participants receiving first priority.
Drop-in’s are welcome, though at risk of the space being full. The workshop will be held at the Helping Hands kitchen located in the middle of Hannawa Falls (four miles south of the Village of Potsdam) at 5868 Rt. 56, on the east side of the main road, across from Chip’s Market. Look for the orange “Workshop Site” lawn signs.
