JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — Ever wonder whether cover crops harbor beneficial or pest insects? A state wide field study is examining just that. Researchers in the Crops Sciences department at the University of Illinois and educators with University of Illinois Extension started a multi-year, state wide study examining insect populations in cover crops last spring. First year results from that study will be discussed on December 13th at a Cover Crops, Insects and Nutrients Seminar at the Morgan County Extension office, 104 North Westgate in Jacksonville.
In addition to this, research looking at the use of rye cover crops to reduce leachable nitrogen will also be discussed.
Featured speakers are Dr. Nick Seiter and Lowell Gentry from the University of Illinois.
The seminar will run from 10 am to noon. Two CEU’s are available for Certified Crop Advisors.
Registration cost is $5 person. Register on line at https://go.illinois.edu/cover or call 217-243-7424 by December 11.
