MCPHERSON, Kan. — Kansas Farmers Union invites the public to attend the third and final installment of the Summer Food Safety & Security Farm Tour Series on Tuesday, June 6.
The farm tour will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Pearson’s Family Farm – Common Ground Producers and Growers Farm (2430 E. 33rd Street North Wichita, KS 67219).
Donna Pearson McClish and David Pearson carry on the tradition of Pearson’s Family Farms, started in 1968 by their parents near Wichita, KS. This urban farm gave rise to their Common Ground Mobile Market and Mobile Food Hub, which they started in 2014 to provide healthy produce to people in food-insecure areas in Sedgwick, Harvey and Butler counties. David is the family farm manager, while Donna is the CEO of the farm operations and mobile market. Following the tour, attendees will meet with seniors who participate in the mobile market, then enjoy a BBQ lunch, followed by a visit to a food distribution site in Wichita.
This set of tours is a collaboration of Kansas Farmers Union, National Farmers Union’s Local Food Safety Collaborative, and Common Ground Producers and Growers, LLC. All tours are free and open to the public. Registration is requested to plan for lunch and handouts.
