JUNEAU, Wis. — Optimal air quality and flow tie directly to cow productivity and profits. The next webinar in the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) “Breathe Easy with Ventilation” World Class Webinar Series will address this topic. Dr. Nigel Cook from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine will lead the second webinar discussing mechanical ventilation options on Wednesday, February 15 from noon to 1 p.m CST.
In this webinar, “Do You Cross, Tunnel or Something Else? Mechanical Ventilation Options for Cow Barns”, the respected Dr. Nigel Cook, DVM will analyze the pros and cons of different mechanical ventilation systems, with specific emphasis on cross and tunnel ventilation. Namely, he will use an economic model to highlight the differences between the two systems. Participants will leave the webinar with the first-hand knowledge to make economically sensible choices for their operations to maximize air quality and cow comfort.
The first webinar in the series, “Challenges of Naturally Ventilating Cow Barns”, also led by Dr. Cook, took place on January 11. In it, attendees discovered the best practices for air quality, movement and cooling in naturally ventilated barns and how to optimize financial returns for different ventilation systems.
Dr. Cook is an industry expert who has been providing a milk quality, lameness and facility troubleshooting service to farmers, teaching veterinary students and developing research related to the influence of the environment on hoof and udder health. He also manages the Dairyland Initiative, the guide to welfare friendly dairy cattle housing.
