DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Farmers Market is kicking off National Farmers Market week (set by the National Farmers Market Coalition as August 5-11, 2018) with an inaugural Watermelon Festival on Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Watermelon Festival celebrates the bounty of the summer harvest with a day of old-fashioned, family-friendly, free activities at the weekend market. Besides having mounds of melons for picking out and taking home, there will be a barn-yard petting zoo, tastings, demonstrations, watermelon themed kids crafts, story time, watermelon games, dancing, live music on stage, and more. Visitors are encouraged to bring their market bag, as the weekend market will be in full swing. Farms, ranches, artisanal foods, and artisan craft vendors will be in the mix too. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Connecting Farm to City, a Dallas based non-profit helping to take people to the farm to show them where nutrition begins.
Watermelon are an important addition to the produce sold at the Dallas Farmers Market each year, and Dallas residents have come to pride themselves on Texas’ crop being the juiciest and most flavorful of all watermelons.
The Dallas Farmers Market is located at 1010 S. Pearl Expressway in Dallas. More details on the event are available at https://dallasfarmersmarket.org/event/watermelon-festival-2/. To dowload a flyer about the event, please click here (JPG).
