WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — How does your water and soil quality affect the growth of crops on your farm? Water quality and the use of cover crops can make a big difference in how well nutrients, such as nitrogen, are held within your soil and prevented from running off into rivers.
The Purdue and University of Illinois Extension Bi-State Ag Program Group will host a Water Quality & Soil Health Conference on Thursday. This conference will take place at the Beef House Restaurant in Covington, Ind. The presentations will start at 9 a.m. EST (8 a.m. CST) and will conclude at 1 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. EST (7:30 a.m. CST)
Topics and presenters of the conference include: Nitrogen and Cover Crop Interactions by Shalamar Armstrong, Purdue Soil Conservation and Management Specialist; Ten Ways to Keep Nitrogen in the Fields by Dennis Bowman, Univ. of Illinois Extension Educator; Cover Crops – Economics, Logistics and Benefits by Rodney Rulon, Rulon Enterprises and CCSI Hub Farmer; Nutrient Management and Soil Health by Betsy Bower, Ceres Solutions Agronomist.
