SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Tom Green County has two water programs planned in San Angelo during June — the first targets professional irrigators, the second is for homeowners.
The Texas Water Star Conference for landscape professionals will be 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., June 8. Individual registration is $30 due upon arrival and includes lunch. Register by June 4 by calling 325-659-6522.
The Water Conservation Seminar-Save Money by Using Less Water for homeowners is set from 9:00 a.m. to noon, June 30. The program is free and open to the public.
The site for both programs is the Tom Green County 4-H Center, 3168 N. U.S. Highway 67. Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension horticulturist in Tom Green County, said the Texas Water Star Conference is geared toward landscape professionals, including those working for school districts, municipalities and golf courses, or as licensed irrigators.
“The professionals’ program will focus on increasing water efficiency by using new water conservation technologies and methods to increase success in landscape management,” Watkins said.
Topics for the Texas Water Star Conference will include: tools for landscape water management, irrigation scheduling using the WaterMyYard program, developing and using water budgets, and irrigation management and technology updates. Speakers will include Charles Swanson, AgriLife Extension landscape irrigation specialist at College Station, and Roger Havlak, parks senior manager for the City of San Angelo.
The Water Conservation Seminar-Save Money by Using Less Water program will feature Dr. Dotty Woodson as the guest speaker. Woodson, who will speak on home landscape irrigation and rainwater harvesting, is an AgriLife Extension program specialist in water resources, Dallas. Call Watkins for more information at 325-659-6522.
