COBLESKILL, N.Y. — This Saturday, July 22nd, Festival Farmers Market of Cobleskill NY, hosts another of its regular season special events at the location of McCarthy Tire Services parking lot at 942 E. Main St. This day is designated as Veterans Services Day when benefits information and resources, including the passing out of $20 Veterans Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons, are available to veterans and their families. VA Healthcare eligibility can be determined and applications completed with on-site assistance provided as needed.

This Saturday features Chef Tim Orth from the local Bull’s Head Inn, from 11am -1pm, sponsored by Bassett Health Care’s 5-2-1-0 Healthy Lifestyle Initiative. He will be sharing preparation techniques for a corn salsa as harvesting for corn and tomatoes nears, and giveaways are included for participation in taste-testing.
For the children grades 1st to 6th, Schoharie Valley Farm to School Project/CCE will be also be present to involve them in a “Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt” while connecting with their parents on local farm to school programs. Each child’s entry helps to qualify their classroom for a Farm to School Field Day drawing, to occur during the upcoming school year.
These special guests accompany the regularly appearing farmers and vendors that take care of the shopping needs for produce, eggs, meats, and honey of all of the farmers market customers.

WHY:
In many communities, there are veterans who have not accessed the full range of benefits to which they are entitled to by virtue of their service to our country. This may be due to a lack of awareness of the existing benefits or the complications for enrolling at certain levels. The Festival Farmers Market is dedicated to sharing the information and resources needed by all members of the community. It also has the mission of promoting of healthy eating which it does through its partnerships to bring chefs and “Farm to School” to the market as well as making shopping available via the use of SNAP/EBT and WIC benefits, Farmers Market Senior Nutrition Program and Farmers Market Veterans Nutrition Program coupons.
