GREENSBURG, Pa. — The PA Veteran Farming Project is pleased to announce a Veteran Farm Field Day at Pyma Love Farm in Linesville, PA, from 9 am to noon. With funding from USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement, the event is free to beginning farmers, military, eligible veterans, and their spouses; cost is $10 for the general public. Lunch will be served and registration is limited to 20 attendees.
Host farmers Garret and Natalie Love have continued the family tradition of raising Angus beef upon moving to the farm after their service with the Ohio Air National Guard. Attendees will hear from Garret about the beef operation and see NRCS projects including covered manure storage and a heavy use area. The field walk will be led by Jody Lasko, NRCS District Conservationist. For farmers interested in learning how NRCS conservation planning, technical assistance, and funding can help their farms, Jody will be available to discuss farm-specific questions at the event.
Ben Buchanan of Unified Fields Harvesting will be featured in a discussion of the challenges and opportunities of custom meat processing. His soon-to-be-launched operation offers an innovative model of mobile processing in the NW PA/Ohio region.
A working lunch featuring Pyma Love Farm beef will be hosted by US Air Force veteran Jason Puryear of ZEST Kitchen and Pantry, Meadville, following the presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with our presenters to ask their farm-specific questions, and build connections with other farmers in the region.
