MILLERSTOWN, Pa. — The PA Veteran Farming Project and Pennsylvania Farm Link are teaming up in November to provide eligible veterans* seeking farmland, or with farmland to sell or lease, a 25% discount when creating a profile at PA Farm Link during November, 2020.
Today, Pennsylvania has 52,700 farms on 7,300,000 acres of farmland; ten years ago, we had 63,200 farms on 7,750,000 acres (USDA NASS). Farm succession to transfer land to the next generation of farmers is vital to maintaining our local food supply and to maintaining the agricultural character of the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania Farm Link, a non-profit organization dedicated to “linking farmers to the future”, accomplishes their mission two ways: an online database, and educational workshops for landowners and beginning farmers.
There is no cost to view land or entering farmer listings at https://www.pafarmlink.org/. During November, 2020, for the discounted fee of $75 (normally $100), eligible veteran entering farmers seeking land, and those with land to lease or sell can create a shareable profile on the site. Pennsylvania Farm Link staff facilitate connections, preserving the confidentiality of both parties until a match is made.
To access the Veterans’ discount contact Mimi at the PA Veterans Farming Project, Pennsylvania’s network for military, veterans, and their spouses who farm, at pavetsfarm@gmail.com or 724-691-1087. Learn more about the Project at https://www.troopstotractors.org/.
* The term “veteran” means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
