Vermont Woodlands Association – Executive Director
Morning Ag Clips/Farmhouse Communication, LLC is seeking a full-time, qualified person whose primary duty will be to serve as the Executive Director of the Vermont Woodlands Association (VWA). Reporting to the VWA Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for executing the VWA mission as envisioned by the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will initially develop deep knowledge of VWA’s history, core programs, operations, and strategic vision.
Mission
Vermont Woodlands is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to educate and advocate for the practices of productive stewardship, use, and enjoyment of Vermont’s woodlands.
We achieve our mission by delivering programs for landowners, the public, and policymakers that support forest health, forest economy, wildlife habitat, recreation, and enjoyment of forests for today and for generations to come.

During a generational transition of leadership, the Vermont Woodlands Association reaffirms its deeply-rooted mission to educate and advocate for the practices of productive stewardship of Vermont’s woodlands. Building on well-established partnerships and a commitment to sustainable fiscal responsibility, VWA seeks to strengthen and expand an inspired membership and outreach to strategic constituencies.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
● Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
● Actively engage and energize VWA’s members, board members, board committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
● Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; seek and build board and committee involvement with strategic direction for all educational and outreach programs.
● Ensure effective protocols and policies to track strategic progress and regularly evaluate education and outreach program components to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
Membership, Fundraising & Communications:
● Develop and implement a membership program focused on increasing participation by, and inclusion of diverse strategic constituencies, including Legacy Members.
● Develop a plan for soliciting and procuring increased general donations, sustaining memberships, Legacy Gifts, and other contributions from individuals or organizations.
● Develop and implement an organization-wide strategy for membership communication and outreach: including plans for the productive and innovative use of social media, communication from the organization to the membership, and outreach communication. Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
Qualifications
The ED will be thoroughly committed to VWA’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership and relationship management experience. This position requires residency in Vermont and the person must be able to work remotely.
Specific requirements include:
● A track record of effectively leading regional or national organizations. Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
● Unwavering commitment to quality programs and program evaluation.
● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
● Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
● Strong marketing, public relations, and/or fundraising experience with the ability to engage and motivate a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
● Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to implementing strategic vision.
● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
● Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
