MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets says the state’s cheese producers won 44 ribbons at the American Cheese Society’s annual awards competition.
Officials say this is Vermont’s best showing so far.
The results were announced at the society’s annual conference last week in Richmond, Virginia.
Agriculture officials say five Vermont cheeses were finalists for the best in show.
A total of 25 Vermont companies submitted cheeses to be judged among the more than 2,000 total entries.
Vermont Gov. Phil Scott congratulated the state’s cheesemakers on their “impressive achievement.” He says their “commitment to excellence is helping Vermont grow its economy by creating jobs and further strengthening our great Vermont brand.”
