LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky broiler value of production in 2016 was $876 million, down 9 percent from $960 million in 2015. The pounds produced was 1.83 billion pounds, an increase of 3 percent from the previous year. The number of head grown declined 2 percent, to 300.3 million head.
Kentucky egg value of production decreased 38 percent to $119 million, down from $192 million in 2015. Production was 1.30 billion eggs in 2016 compared with 1.28 billion eggs in 2015, a 2 percent increase.
Nationally, the value of broilers produced during 2016 was $25.9 billion, down 10 percent from 2015. The total number of broilers produced in 2016 was 8.78 billion, up 1 percent from 2015. The total amount of live weight broilers produced in 2016 was 54.3 billion pounds, up 2 percent from 2015.
Value of all egg production for the nation in 2016 was $6.48 billion, down 52 percent from $13.6 billion in 2015. Egg production totaled 102 billion eggs, up 5 percent from 97.2 billion eggs produced in 2015.
