WALDO, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Extension will be holding the annual Cattle Feeders Workshops February 27th at Chissy’s in Waldo. This year’s workshop includes a variety of useful information for farmers finishing both dairy and beef breed steers.
Dr. Randy Shaver, UW-Extension & UW-Madison Dairy Nutritionist, will discuss how kernel starch properties, fermentation, and particle size, can affect cattle performance, and Dr. Brenda Boetel, UW-Extension & UW-River Falls Livestock Economist, will present the market outlook for 2018.
Bill Halfman, UW-Extension, will demonstrate and provide an overview of several decision making tools from the Wisconsin Beef Information Center including cow calf, stocker, and feedlot enterprise budgets, a yardage calculator, and close out budget.
Safety for people and cattle during hauling, bruising minimization, and biosecurity are important components of successful cattle transportation. UW-Extension Agriculture Agent Adam Hady will discuss transportation quality assurance and how to incorporate these best practices on farm.
