TUCKER, Ga. — USPOULTRY is introducing a new training module titled, Ventilation Shutdown Plus (VSD+) for Commercial Egg Laying Systems. The training is available through USPOULTRY’s Learning Management Systems (LMS), which is free for USPOULTRY members.
Research recently conducted in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University has demonstrated that ventilation shutdown plus (VSD+) is an effective alternative depopulation method for use with laying hens. VSD+ uses increasing heat, or C02, in a sealed poultry house to more rapidly render poultry insensible during a mass depopulation incidence. Alternative methods of depopulation are used when resources for primary depopulation methods are exhausted or not practical, such as during a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak.
The USPOULTRY LMS can be accessed by visiting the USPOULTRY website at www.uspoultry.org/training. For more information and to register for this course, please contact Rafael Rivera at rrivera@uspoultry.org.
