DOVER, Del. — The U.S Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) estimated 80 thousand acres of winter wheat planted in Delaware for 2022, up 33% from last year. Area harvested for grain is estimated at 60 thousand acres, also up 71% from last year.
Following up to the Prospective Plantings report released in late spring, NASS surveyed approximately 9,100 segments of land and 64,200 farm operators during the first two weeks of June to gather information on what farmers planted.
Key findings released in the Acreage report include:
Corn
- Corn area planted for 2022 is estimated at 170 thousand acres, down 3% from 2021.
- Corn area harvested for 2022 is estimated at 162 thousand acres, down 6% from last year.
Soybean
- Soybean area planted for 2022 is estimated at 155 thousand acres, unchanged from 2021./li>
- Soybean area harvested for 2022 is estimated at 153 thousand acres, unchanged from last year.
All Hay
- Growers expect to harvest a record low 10 thousand acres of hay, down 9% from last year.
- Other hay is estimated at 8 thousand acres, unchanged from 2021.
- Alfalfa hay is estimated at a record low 2 thousand acres, down 33% from last year.
Barley
- Barley area planted for 2022 is 21 thousand acres, unchanged from 2021.
- Barley harvested area is estimated at 15 thousand acres, up 7% from 2021.
