USDA NASS crop production statistics for the Northwest Region

Potato and corn production down, sugarbeet production up in the region

Potato production in Washington is forecast at 93.3 million cwt., down 6 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 159,500 acres, is up 5,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 585 cwt. per acre down 60 cwt. per acre from the previous year. (Eric Prouzet/Unsplash)

OLYMPIA, Wash. — USDA NASS released crop production statistics for three crops in the Northwest Region.

Corn for Grain
Production of corn for grain in Idaho is forecast at 22.5 million bushels, down 13 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 105,000 acres, is down 25,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 214 bushels per acre, up 15 bushels from 2020. Washington corn for grain production is forecast at 16.9 million bushels, down 13 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 75,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 225 bushels per acre, down 3 bushels from the previous year.

Sugarbeets
Production of sugarbeets in Idaho is forecast at 6.83 million tons, down slightly from last year. Harvested area, at 170,000 acres, is up 1,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 40.2 tons per acre, down 0.3 ton from 2020. Oregon sugarbeet production is forecast at 406,000 tons, up 6 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 10,300 acres, is up 900 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 39.4 tons per acre, down 1.5 tons from the previous year. Washington sugarbeet production is forecast at 91,000 tons, up 6 percent from last year. Harvested area is estimated at 1,900 acres, up 100 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 47.8 tons per acre, unchanged from 2020.

Potatoes
Potato production in Idaho is forecast at 132 million cwt., down 2 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 314,500
acres, is up 15,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 420 cwt. per acre, down 30 cwt. from 2020. Potato
production in Oregon is forecast at 25.5 million cwt., down 5 percent from the previous year. Harvested area, at 44,800 acres, is down 200 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 570 cwt. per acre, down 30 cwt. from 2020. Potato production in Washington is forecast at 93.3 million cwt., down 6 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 159,500 acres, is up 5,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 585 cwt. per acre down 60 cwt. per acre from the previous year.
