MANHATTAN, Kan. — An official from Heifer International will speak April 23 in Manhattan about how her organization helps families and communities worldwide become more self-reliant. Hilary Haddigan, the group’s chief of mission effectiveness, will discuss how livestock is a solution to income challenges in the developing world during the 16th installment of the Upson Lecture Series. Her presentation is open to the public and will take place at 6:00 p.m. in McCain Auditorium on the Kansas State University campus.
For more than 70 years, Heifer International has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. The organization’s goal is to help four million families achieve living incomes by 2020, which will allow recipients to feed themselves, educate their children and have appropriate housing and essential resources.
Haddigan has been with Heifer International for 17 years. She previously worked with Christian Aid in the United Kingdom, her home country, as a college chaplain in inner-city London.
The Upson Lecture Series is endowed by the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine classes of 1962 and 1966. Presentations are planned and organized by the K-State student organization Food for Thought. A live stream of the lecture will be available on the Food for Thought Facebook page. Video of the lecture will be available online following the event.
