Updates from UGA CAES & Cooperative Extension

Over the last few months, there has been a lot of activity

ATHENS, Ga. — It’s summer in Athens, Tifton and Griffin — though traffic is lighter and students are seen less frequently on our campuses, CAES faculty and staff are still working to conduct groundbreaking research, provide impactful UGA Cooperative Extension resources and support student development.

Over the last few months, there has been a lot of activity behind Conner Hall as we’ve begun construction on our new Poultry Science Building. This 70,000+ square-foot, state-of-the-art building will provide the necessary facilities and technology to elevate UGA’s Department of Poultry Science. A national leader in poultry, CAES is looking forward to even greater levels of success once this building is operational in 2023. For more information and to watch a live stream of the construction, visit the campaign’s webpage.

For the first time in over two years, CAES students are participating in study abroad programs all across the world — in countries like Cuba, Morocco, and Greece, they are studying global agriculture practices and experiencing new cultures. We place a high value on experiential learning opportunities in CAES and believe that hands-on learning creates well-rounded, career-ready students who make a difference in their chosen fields.

Finally, the university has recently approved the creation of an Institute for Integrative Precision Agriculture to be housed on the Athens campus. This institute, a collaborative effort between UGA departments and other institutions, will enable us to move even more quickly toward creative solutions to the complex problems in agriculture today. From planting and harvesting to animal production and welfare, CAES is a national leader in innovative research that seeks to strengthen our state’s No.1 industry. We are excited to see how this newest hub will transform the work done not only at UGA but across industries related to agriculture and the environment.

There is much to be excited about in CAES these days, and we are glad to have the opportunity to partner with you as we celebrate together. The updates below will provide you with insight into some of our recent successes, ongoing work and future plans.
