ARDMORE, Okla. — Grafting pecan tree seedlings produces a new variety with improved traits, but effective grafting requires proper technique and practice.
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation’s Center for Pecan and Specialty Agriculture will host a Pecan Grafting Workshop on Tuesday, April 18, at the Noble Foundation Kruse Auditorium, to teach attendees the proper grafting technique.
This half-day workshop will be offered at two times. The morning session will be from 9-11:30 a.m., and the afternoon session will be from 1:30-4 p.m. Registrants may choose to attend either session.
“Due to the high demand for grafted trees at nurseries, producers may elect to plant seedlings or use native trees that are already on their property,” said Charles Rohla, Ph.D., Center for Pecan and Specialty Agriculture manager. “By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to effectively graft their own pecan trees.”
This hands-on workshop will provide participants an opportunity to hone their grafting skills by working with experts to graft young pecan trees. There will also be time for individuals to interact with the Noble Foundation’s horticulture consultants for one-on-one questions.
This workshop is offered at no charge, but preregistration is required. For more information or to register, please visit www.noble.org/agevents or contact Danielle Pacifico at 580-224-6376 or Trisha DeLozier at 580-224-6377.
