PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — In collaboration with Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas Department of Agriculture and Produce Safety Alliance, Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program will be conducting a workshop on July 27, 2017 on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rules and Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) titled “Food Safety Rules and GAPs Training for Producers”.
While anyone is welcome to attend, this would be a great opportunity for agriculture producers, whether with a large or a small-scale operation, to learn about the latest rules on food safety and get GAPs certified. Anyone selling produce can benefit from this course even if he or she is exempt from the new rules because produce safety affects us all.
The cost of this day-long course is $40, which includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments and workshop materials.
Participant who complete the program will receive an Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) certificate upon submitting the appropriate paperwork. The GAPs certificate will go a long way if a grower wishes to sell to retail stores or is audited.
To register and for additional information go to https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/ProduceSafety or call 979-845-2604. For planning purposes, preregistration is encouraged.
