LAMBERTON, Minn. — Learning is fun at the University on the Prairie Program! Again this summer, students can have an adventure in science and career exploration that is closer to home than may be realized. Cottonwood County 4-H will be offering this popular program at the Southwest Research & Outreach Center, near Lamberton.
Faculty from the University of Minnesota and SDSU, along with local professionals and SWROC scientists will join teachers from the region to guide students through hands-on exploration of science in five career areas important to the life and future of southwestern Minnesota: health science, food science, engineering, environmental science, and chemistry. The program is unique in the state and offers students an opportunity to open doors to many career paths and will perhaps result in a future soil scientist, pharmacist, food safety inspector, or chemist. You can find a video from the 2017 program here: https://youtu.be/q89EMk4tAUA
The program features three full days of fun and hands-on activities at the SWROC laboratories, classrooms, and outdoors. Registration will be at 8 a.m. on July 24, 2018. The program is from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on July 24-26, 2018.
Registration is open for all students entering 7th-12th grade. Total cost is $75 per student. It is important to register early because there is limited space available. This year a limited number of $50 scholarships from the Southwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership are available to help defray registration costs.
