SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Several unique books are available for purchase at the Greene County MU Extension office in time for the holiday season.
The MU Extension office is located inside the Springfield Botanical Center at 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield. The office will be open for book purchases until Dec. 20.
Some of the most popular books included the following.
“Greene County Plat Book,” is a 100-page publication that details land owners in the county. It has been 10 years since a plat book was printed for the county and over half of the books have already been purchased. These books cost $50.
“Simple and Seasonal” is a guide to help you select, store and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables. This book is priced at $15.
“Gardening Journal and Calendar” is a journal for Missouri gardeners, as well as a how-to guide and information resource. This book is priced at $15.
“Home Canning Basics and Recipes” is for anyone wanting to preserve homegrown produce. This book is priced at $22.
“History of the Schools in Greene County” traces the history of education in Greene County and focuses specifically on the one-room school buildings that are still standing. This book is priced at $15.
“Missouri Directory of Historic Schools” focuses on the 85 best one-room and historic schools that are still standing in Missouri. Great for any history buff. This book is priced at $15.
“Newswriting for the Non-Journalist” a media guide for community leaders and volunteers. This book is priced at $5.
“A History of Me,” which is a series of questions you can answer to create a special heirloom gift of your own detailed history. This book is priced at $5.
Various other books on weed and brush control, pest management, Missouri’s courthouses and beekeeping are also available for purchase.
The local office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The books on one-room schools can also be purchased online from Amazon.com or at http://extension.missouri.edu.
