RUTLAND, Vt. — On Wednesday August 3rd, the VWA will be hosting a woods walk that will focus on the topic of understory management and beech tree control. Tyler Dallas of Entwoods Forestry will be leading the event. The tour will be from 9:00-11:00 AM and take place at 894 Howard Hill Road, Andover, VT 05143.
The tour will look at an area of a northern hardwood forest where American beech was out of control in the understory. Two years ago, Dallas and others severed/girdled every beech tree in the area to promote the growth of non-beech tree species. On the tour Dallas will point out the successes and shortcomings of this particular project, discuss future management options, and share on understory management and beech control in general.
The site is a short walk from the parking area. An important note is that there is only enough room for about six cars at the site, so carpooling is encouraged. The rain date for the event will be August 4th.
