TIMONIUM, Md. — More Than A Fair, We’re A Culture…HortiCULTURE! There will be a lot of growth at the 138th Maryland State Fair in the new and improved University of Maryland Extension Master Gardeners Learning Garden in the Maryland State Fair Park. UME Master Gardeners will be on site from Aug. 23 to Sept. 2 from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
Come visit the UME Master Gardeners Learning Garden to see a guided tour through the Demonstration Garden, which is complete with traditional, raised and Do-It-Yourself garden beds and container gardens. Fairgoers will learn about the latest gardening techniques and tips, how to find and naturally eliminate garden pests, how to improve your garden soil and more.
“Our hope is to show the different possibilities and give people ideas on how they can plant and maintain their own fruitful garden,” said University of Maryland Extension Specialist Jon Traunfeld.
The Master Gardeners will also answer questions and provide DIY handouts on various gardening topics.
“We are excited to showcase some brand new garden features this year, including a walk-in vegetable enclosure,” said State Master Gardener Coordinator Stephanie Mathias. “There is something for everyone in the Learning Garden. Our knowledgeable Master Gardeners can help you learn how to grow your best fruits, vegetables and herbs.”
