SAN ANGELO,Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Tom Green County will host its Trash to Treasure event from 9:00 a.m. to noon October 20.
Trash to Treasure is an event focusing on recycling, composting and vermiculture. The event will be held at Fort Concho – Living History Stable Classroom, 236 Henry O. Flipper St., San Angelo. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Call 325-659-6522 to register.
Christy Youker, Texas Disposal Systems, will give a lecture titled, “Use Less and Recycle More.” The lecture will discuss the baby steps of learning to be less wasteful and how to recycle more — even when it’s inconvenient.
The lecture also includes updates on how to recycle in San Angelo. Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension agent in Tom Green County, will discuss the basics of composting. Watkins will speak on turning fallen leaves, grass clippings and kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost for the landscape and garden.
Linda Rowe, Master Gardener, will discuss backyard vermiculture and will go in-depth on how to create a worm bin to harvest worm castings for the garden.
