Transition workshop set for Jan. 24

Speakers will answer questions and breakout sessions will be held

PUBLISHED ON January 11, 2017

Professionals in the agricultural industry will be providing valuable information to farm business owners who are looking to retire, scale back from farming or looking to transition from a farm business to take on another adventure. (Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture)

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — PA Farm Link will be holding a Farm Succession and Transition Program on Jan. 24 at the Lehigh County Agricultural Center, Allentown, Pa.

Professionals in the agricultural industry will be providing valuable information to farm business owners who are looking to retire, scale back from farming or looking to transition from a farm business to take on another adventure.

These workshops presented by PA Farm Link. PA Farm Link, a non-profit dedicated to “Linking Farmers to the Future”, will provide information on various aspects of creating a Farm Business Succession/Transition plan. Often farm families start to discuss passing the farm business to the next generation, but get “stuck” on how to proceed. These workshops will help work through some of the myths and stumbling blocks of moving forward with a farm succession and transition plan.

Topics covered will include: Succession/Transition from a Legal Perspective; Goals & Needs of Farm Family Members; Financial Challenges of Succession Planning; and Challenges and Successes of Farm Succession. Speakers will include: MidAtlantic Farm Credit Ag Professional; Darlene Livingston, PA Farm Link, and Attorney Jody Leighty, Stock and Leader.

Speakers will answer questions and breakout sessions will be held. Certified International Farm Transition Network facilitators will be available to assist families in planning the next steps. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions, and will be given a list of potential resources in the area to provide future assistance with a farm succession/transition plan.

Included in the workshop is a copy of: “Planning the Future of Your Farm” Pennsylvania Edition (normally sold for $10.60 per copy).

Registration is required by Jan. 17. Registration can be completed online at www.pafarmlink.org or through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/farm-succession-transition-workshop-lehigh-county-tickets-29818727617 or by calling 717-705-2121.

Registration fee: $10 per individual. Multiple attendees from the same business are encouraged to participate so all pertinent parties, especially multiple generations, can gather information.

The Lehigh County Agricultural Center is located at 4184 Dorney Park Road, Allentown, PA 18104.
