GOSHEN, Ind. — The Michiana Master Gardeners Association will be hosting the Elkhart County Garden Expo on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Join us for a day of notable speakers, garden related vendors, door prizes and silent auction.
Our keynote speaker is Barbara Pleasant, from Virginia. She has been covering organic gardening and self-sufficient living for more than 30 years. She started out with Organic Gardening magazine and moved on to Mother Earth News, American Gardener and GrowVeg.com. Pleasant’s articles and books have garnered multiple awards from the Garden Writers Association and the American Nursery and Landscape Association.
Mike McGroarty, is a lifelong resident of Perry, Ohio. As a teen he worked at a local nursery. After graduation he went to work for a landscaper and soon learned he knew more about plants and their botanical names than his boss did. A year later he started his own business and has been landscaping gardens ever since. Mike’s books include Plant Free Landscape Plants, Easy Plant Propagation, Small Plants, Big Profits from Home and Can Any Small Business Make You Rich?
Marcy Daily is a Gold Level Master Gardener and a 20+ year member of the LaPorte County Master Gardener Association. She has been a member of the Herb Society of America, Indian Native Plant and Wildflower Society and American Horticulture Society. She enjoys working her own colonial style herb garden with its 18 raised beds in theme plantings. Programs she has presented over the years include flower folklore, heirloom gardening, garden journaling and Deciphering Botanic Latin, It’s all Greek to me!
Charlotte Hubbard is a resident of Southwest Michigan. She mentors beekeepers and teaches beekeeping at several colleges, bee clubs and schools locally and nationally. Along with her husband, Marshall, she manages 3-4 colonies on their properties in Southwest Michigan. She is author of Dronings from a Queen Bee: The First Five Years, a collection of humorous essays about beekeeping, and If I Could Sit on a Bee’s Knees, a children’s book answering questions about bees. Charlotte was named Michigan’s 2018 Beekeeper of the Year.
