CONGRESS, Ariz. — Harvest Gold Organics improves the environment at its source AND in every customers’ garden and lawn. President Kevin Jones and his team turned a historic abandoned mining site into a natural and sustainable new business that improves plants and the local environment, for every grower.
Trained as geologist, Jones was leading a team reclaiming trace gold from the tailings at the historic Congress Mine in Arizona. A chemical analysis showed the tailings to be rich in a uniquely shaped silica and chock full of minerals that plants loves.
And Jones literally had tons of it.
Perfecting a proprietary process, the tailings are sustainably recycled and purified into a natural soil conditioner that is certified organic. Flipping the environmental liability into a sustainable asset, Jones launched Harvest Gold Organics.
“First, we are proud that our product delivers proven growing results, naturally. It benefits every type of plant, and it is certified organic so it benefits the planet,” said Jones. “By turning forgotten mining waste into Harvest Gold, we’re not only helping families and businesses to grow better, we are introducing a sustainable resource for cleaner growing everywhere.
“And we are cleaning up that mining site at the same time.”
GLOBAL IMPACT
Jones hopes his company can be the start of a global trend to recycle mine tailings and other “waste rock” to naturally improve growing results, reduce manufactured chemicals in our water, and help slow global warming. One climate solution being explored is to spread pulverized rock on farm soils. In addition to improving yields and reducing need for fertilizer, it could speed up the slow natural process of rock weathering. In rock weathering, rain helps convert carbon dioxide to bicarbonate, as it breaks down rock.
“This really can be a global environmental game changer,” Jones said. “We clean up sites by naturally recycling waste rock. We spread it on and in growing fields globally. Those fields need less fertilizer and less water, AND they can clean more carbon dioxide out of our atmosphere at the same time.”
HOW IT WORKS
Unlike other manufactured silica products, Harvest Gold Organics Premium Soil Conditioner is completely repurposed from the mine tailings. It includes unique angular silica and nine other essential minerals and micronutrients. The flat, angular shape of the mined silica has more surface area to bond to nutrients and water, holding them in soil longer and helping to maximize the feed of those nutrients to plants. Stronger plants in turn stand up better to the elements, are less susceptible to pests and provide richer yields.
Harvest Gold Organics works on any soil-based plant including grasses, vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees and shrubs. Growers simply add it to their planting soil. Because it is not chemical based or a fertilizer, there is no manufacturing chemical residue or leaching into water supplies.
PROVEN RESULTS
In an independent lab test conducted by Oasis Genetics, Harvest Gold Organics Premium Soil Conditioner was scientifically proven to help plants retain 25%-30% more water. It suspends water in soil for roots to access, and supports better drainage so less water is needed.
