BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — University of Illinois Extension invites you to join Consumer Economics Educator, Camaya Wallace Bechard, Local Food Systems and Small Farms Educator, Bill Davison, and Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Jenna Smith out at The Refuge Food Forest in Normal! Join us for a unique and collaborative workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28.
Have you ever visited our local food forest in Normal, IL? The Refuge Food Forest provides access to healthy food and information for individuals or families interested in learning how to incorporate fresh fruit into their diet. University of Illinois Extension educators are offering a free interdisciplinary program that focuses on important tips on how to save on your food spending, to utilize community food resources, and ways to create healthy, jams, jellies, smoothies, sauces and dressings to add to your recipes.
When chatting with Davison about walking through the food forest, he mentioned the fact that, “The Refuge Food Forest has already produced thousands of pounds of fruit that has tantalized the taste buds of hundreds of people over the past four years.”
Take a chance and try something new in your community. Stop out at the food forest for our workshop and discover how it can help you and your family make informed food decisions that can lead to long-term positive outcomes for your health and well-being.
“The community has really come together to support this project. Volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of labor and have spread 21 dump truck loads of mulch to help manage this unique urban orchard. Their care and support helps the food forest get better every year,” said Davison.
