BROOME CO., N.Y. — On Monday and Tuesday August 29th and 30th the NYS 4-H Livestock Skill-A-Thon and Judging Contest were held at the NYS Fair. During the Skill a Thon youth participated in a written test, a team problem and seven stations that included tools/equipment identification, breeds of livestock, quality assurance, meat cuts, wool quality, and feed and hay identification. During the Livestock judging contest youth judged 6 classes of animals, answered questions on the classes and then the Seniors had to defend their placings by giving oral reasons to the official judges. Youth placed 2 classes of beef, 2 classes of swine and 2 classes of sheep.
