ONEIDA CO., N.Y. — Oneida County 4-H had a great Boonville-Oneida County Fair this year! With over 100 4-H exhibitors showing dairy, beef, sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, poultry and dogs at the fair many awards were handed out!
The fair started out with the 4-H Rabbit Show. The Best in Show Cavy was awarded to Casey Roman (Vernon) and his White Crested Cavy. Reserve Best in Show Cavy went to Brett VanNamee (Barneveld) and his American Cavy. Sara Mierek (Remsen) was Best in Show Rabbit with her Polish rabbit. Casey Roman (Vernon) was Reserve Best in Show with his French Lop rabbit. Master Showman was Sara Mierek (Remsen) and Reserve Master Showman was Casey Roman (Vernon).
The 4-H Poultry Show Best in Show was awarded to Kerryn Lohr (Vernon) with her Blue Mottled Cochin. The reserve Best in Show went to Tyler Smith’s (Vernon) Modern. Tyler Smith (Vernon) was our Master Showman of the Poultry Show and Danann Lohr (Vernon) was the Reserve Master Showman.
Kyle Sexton (Ava) was the proud owner of the Best in Show Sheep with his Cheviot and the Reserve Best in Show Sheep went to Abigail Douglas (Camden) with her Dorper. The Master Sheep Showman went to Abigail Wratten (Oriskany Falls) while Kyle Sexton (Ava) was the Reserve Master Sheep Showman.
The 4-H Grand Champion of the Beef Show was Jonas Meays (Holland Patent) with his Summer Yearling Heifer and Reserve Grand Champion was Ruth Dibble (West Winfield) with her Market Steer. The Master Beef Showman was awarded to Ruth Dibble (West Winfield) and Jonas Meays (Holland Patent) was the Reserve Master Showman of the Beef Show.
The 4-H Grand Champion Dairy Goat was Jacinta vanLishout (Verona) with her LaMancha and Reserve Grand Champion went to Theresa vanLieshout (Verona) with her Toggenburg. The 4-H Grand Champion Meat Goat went to Elizabeth Schieferstine (Vernon) and Reserve Grand Champion when to Rebecca Schieferstine (Vernon). The Master Goat Showman was awarded to Lydia Williams (Waterville) and Reserve Master Goat Showman went to Theresa vanLieshout (Verona)
During the 4-H Dairy Show we had a really high quality group of cattle. Supreme Champion of the 4-H Dairy Show was Ashley Thornton (Boonville), Reserve Supreme of the 4-H Show was Elizabeth Schieferstine (Vernon). The All Breed Junior Champion and the Reserve All Breeds Junior Champion both went to Mason Ziemba (Durhamville) Our Master Showman was Jacinta vanLieshout (Verona) and Reserve Master Showman was Mason Ziemba (Durhamville).
The Englebrecht Award was given to Kathleen Gallagher (Waterville) for her achievements at this year’s fair.
Herdsmanship prizes were awarded to the top four exhibits of both large and small livestock. For the small livestock, 1st place was Kyle Sexton (Ava), 2nd place was David Vanderhoof (Vernon) and Christopher vanLieshout (Verona), 3rd place was Abigail Douglas (Camden) and Noah Britton (Camden) and 4th was Molly Williams (Waterville). In the large livestock division, Logan DiNitto (Marcy) received 1st place, Jonathan Staring (Lowville) received 2nd, the vanLishout family (Verona) placed 3rd and the Coon/Burns Families placed 4th. Awards were provided by Clinton Tractor.
The overall Supreme Master Showman was awarded to Abigail Wratten (Oriskany Falls). For this contest the top two showman for each species; dairy, beef, sheep, and goats have the opportunity to show each species and compete for right be called the Supreme Showman of the 2017 Boonville Fair. Abigail was awarded a jacket that was proudly sponsored by Clinton Tractor.
We had many participants at this year’s Oneida County Boonville Fair Horse show! In the Hunt Seat Division, Paige Schweinsberg (Old Forge) was named Senior Champion and Kendalle Serra (Boonville) was the Senior Reserve Champion. In the Junior and Pony Divisions, Emily French (Durhamville) was named Junior and Pony Champions and alongside her was Jordan French (Durhamville) as the Reserve Junior and Pony Champions. The Novice Champion in the Hunt Seat division was Kaylee French (Durhamville) and the Novice Reserve Champion was Rebecca Darling (Holland Patent). The state fair participants in this division will be Paige Schweinsberg (Old Forge), Jordan French (Durhamville), Emily French (Durhamville) and Alexandra Khouri (Ava).
In the Mini and Driving Divisions, Marianna Foppes (Vernon) was named Mini Champion and Sofia DePasquale (Rome) was the Mini Reserve Champion. In the driving division, Sophie Norton (Utica) was named the Driving Champion and Samantha Canarelli (Sauquoit) was the Driving Reserve Champion. State fair participants for these divisions will include Marianna Foppes (Vernon), Sofia DePasquale (Rome), Sophie Norton (Utica), and Alyssa Canarelli (Sauquoit) and Samantha Canarelli (Sauquoit).
In the Western Division, our Senior Champion was Abigail Scouten (Forestport) and the Senior Reserve Champion was Paige Schweinsberg (Old Forge). In the Junior Division, Hailey Smith (West Leyden) was named Junior Champion and Julia Waterhouse (Boonville) was named Reserve Junior Champion. Our Champion Novice was Stephanie Grocholski (Westernville), and our Novice Reserve Champion was Morgan Wilcox (Constableville). The state fair participants for the Western Division will include Abigail Scouten (Forestport), Paige Schweinsberg (Old Forge), Brianna Yetman (Forestport), and Hailey Smith (West Leyden).
Finally the 4-H Horse Shows concluded with Gymkhana Day. In this division, Kendalle Serra (Boonville) was named Senior Champion and Ian Fruin (Port Leyden) was named the Reserve Senior Champion. In the Junior Division, Katherine Allen (Boonville) was the Junior Champion, Anna Bielby (Blossvale) was the Reserve Junior Champion. The Novice Champion was Amilee Coonrode (Taberg) and the Novice Reserve Champion was Colin Jones (Sauquoit). The State Fair participants for this division will include Paige Schweinsberg (Old Forge), Kendalle Serra (Boonville), Katherine Allen (Boonville), Anna Bielby (Taberg) and Ian Fruin (Port Leyden).
The following 4-H members exhibited projects in the youth building at the county fair that will all be moving on the exhibit at the New York State Fair. These members are Alexis Tennant (Blossvale), Alyssa Canarelli (Sauquoit), Alyssa vanLieshout (Rome), Andrew Kilgore (Taberg), Bethany Boehlert (Oriskany Falls), Brett VanNamee (Barneveld), Casey Roman (Vernon), Charles Larry (Rome), Clare vanLieshout (Durhamville), Cooney Lainy (Lee Center), Danielle Mangini (Cassville), Gordon Konner Tibbitts (Clayville), Isabella vanLieshout (Verona), Jacob Bathke (Rome), Katie Wilson (Canastota), Kylie Tennant (Blossvale), Layla vanLieshout (Verona), Logan Godaire (Munnsville), Murphy Condon (Camden), Myah LaFave (Sherrill), Noelle DiRuzzo (Verona Beach), Olivia Healt (West Leyden), P.Ella Larry (Rome), Payton VanNamee (Barneveld), Pazia Grocholski (Westernville), Peter Grocholski III (Westernville), Rachel Siegel (New York Mills), Rhiannon Traxel (Boonville), Robin Litts (Lee Center), Ruth Dibble (West Winfield) and Samantha Witzigman (West Leyden).
