DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque County Extension Office and Council has received information that an adult volunteer present at the Dubuque County 4-H Swine Show on Monday, July 27, has tested positive for COVID-19. This information comes from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Regional Director, Paul Mariman whose region includes Dubuque County.
“On August 1, 2020 we were notified that the volunteer received a confirmed positive test result,” Mariman said. “The volunteer reported no symptoms when present at the swine show. The individual experienced symptoms later in the week and was tested on July 31,” said Mariman.
Mariman said that face coverings were strongly recommended for all 4-H Swine Show attendees. Personal contacts are being made to everyone who had pre-registered for the show and had provided contact information.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we are providing notice so people who attended the 4-H Swine Show can monitor their health and consult current CDC/public health guidance,” Mariman said. He added that any staff from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Dubuque County who may have come in contact with the volunteer are now self-isolating for 14 days. The volunteer had minimal contact with 4-H youth or the public.
4-H Swine Show attendees who have questions about possible exposure may contact public health, their healthcare provider or the Dubuque County Extension office.
