QUEENSTOWN, Md. — The Mid-Atlantic Certified Crop Advisers (MACCA) Board is excited to support two students with $1,000 scholarships to pursue studies in Plant Science with the goal of becoming certified crop advisers. The certified crop adviser (CCA) certificate program started in 1992 to provide a standard for practicing agronomy professionals in the U.S. and Canada. This certificate has since expanded and is recommended for those who spend a majority of their time advising growers on agronomic practices. To start the next generation with a strong career credential, this year’s recipients will also be given the opportunity to take the CCA Exam, to become a CCA, free of cost through the scholarship program.
The board sees value in individuals working towards an agricultural degree and strives to support the next generation of agriculture professionals. If you are interested in working in our industry and becoming a CCA, our board is glad to assist with possible internship opportunities and questions. Please contact our administrative team at jenell.mdag@gmail.com.
For 2022, MACCA is awarding scholarships to Maci Carter from Harrington, Delaware, and Bethany Knutsen also from Harrington. Congratulations to both Maci and Bethany for their dedication to plant science as they attend the University of Delaware.

Maci is currently attending the University of Delaware working towards a double major in Agriculture and Natural Resources and Plant Science. Maci has a strong background in 4-H and FFA, being a past Delaware State Officer and National Convention Delegate. Growing up, Maci worked at her grandparents’ produce stand where she was later promoted to Assistant Manager. This summer Maci will be completing an internship with Willard Agri-Services and plans to pursue a career in Plant and Soil Science after graduation.
Bethany is a Senior at Woodbridge High School in Delaware. She was raised on her family’s dairy farm where she developed and ran several farm day camps for kids to learn about where their food comes from. She has been an active member of 4-H, FFA, and held the title of Delaware Dairy Princess. After graduation in June of 2022, Bethany plans to attend the University of Delaware majoring in Plant Science with the goal of becoming an Agronomist.
