GREENSBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Veteran Farming Project announced today that ten veteran-owned and operated farms and agribusinesses are featured on their 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Trail map. The statewide organization encourages everyone this Veterans Day and every day to do more than say, “Thank you for your service” to those who have served, by buying local produce, meat, and agricultural goods at a veteran-owned farm in your community.
Trail farms this year range from an established organic farm in the process of becoming certified Biodynamic in order to ‘heal the planet through agriculture’, to an eastern PA conservation farm focusing on endangered species, to agritourism farms that are homes to crowd-pleasing and adorable alpacas, to more traditional meat and vegetable farms. With the variety and geographic dispersal of Trail farms, there is truly something for everyone. Download your Trail map at https://www.troopstotractors.org/events-1 .
The public is invited to contact individual Trail farms to confirm visiting hours. While farm visits are family-friendly opportunities to teach children about livestock and where what’s on their plates comes from, the PA Veteran Farming Project reminds guests that each Trail site is a working farm and to dress appropriately and adhere to posted safety guidelines.
The PA Veteran Farming Project serves eligible veterans, military, and their spouses at no cost to them, connecting them to agricultural resources, farm employment and apprenticeships through the Troops to Tractors program, and promotes veteran agriculture throughout the Commonwealth.
