SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Registration will open at 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 5 for area 4th through 8th grade students to register to attend ‘Spring STEM Fest 2017’ hosted by Dordt College and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach 4-H and Youth Programs. Spring STEM Fest 2017 will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Dordt College in Sioux Center.
Check-in will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Dordt College Science and Technology Center (498 4th Ave. NE, Sioux Center), with sessions starting at 9:00 a.m.Youth will need to bring $10 to pay for lunch. Additional snacks will be provided throughout the day, and a public showcase will be held at 2:30 p.m.
“Participation in STEM Fest is free – except for the $10 lunch fee – and open to all 4th through 8th grade students,” said Ben Pullen, youth program specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Sessions are fun and educational with mind-blowing activities. Youth are given the opportunity to experience hands-on, exciting applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
Parents must register their child(ren) online and choose their child’s first, second and third choice color track which consists of different sessions and activities. Organizers will attempt to honor color track choices, but sessions fill up quickly. No changes to color tracks will happen the day of the event.
This year, session topics include: Drawing Distinct Diagonals, Cyclon Eyes, A Cool View from the Top, Zoology Lab, Fun with Chemistry, Corn and Soybeans, Beverage Concoctions, Vinegar Boats, Probability Games and Teasers, Dairy Science, ISU Virtual FLEx Reality Lab, Vet Science and Body Systems, West Point Bridge Designer, and What is Nursing?.
Online registration can be completed at https://form.jotform.com/4Hregion1/dordtstemfest2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 5. Individuals without access to a computer are encouraged to visit with your local ISU Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator to register:

“We recommend signing up ASAP as color tracks fill up quickly,” Pullen said. “Register right away to guarantee a spot.”
