ARDMORE, Okla. — Spring is a period of rapid change in pasture and range management. It is also the season when most begin thinking about controlling weeds and other pests.
To provide information about efficient and environmentally friendly weed and brush management, the Noble Research Institute will host a Pest Management and Sprayer Calibration Seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 4, at the Noble Research Institute Kruse Auditorium.
Join Noble Research Institute consultants and researchers in discussing pest management in pastures, hay fields and pecan orchards. Integrated Pest Management and pesticide labels will also be discussed.
“Proper pest management is a critical component of any production system,” said James Locke, Noble soils and crops consultant. “Understanding the principals of integrated pest management and how to correctly use the tools available are the first steps to safely and effectively managing pests in pastures, hay fields and pecans.”
During the seminar, participants will learn the importance of reading and understanding pesticide labels as well as how to exercise proper safety procedures, correctly identify common pasture and hay field brush and weeds, correctly identify pecan pests, and choose the proper products and rates to control. Demonstrations on how to calibrate different types of sprayers will take place in the afternoon.
Texas private applicators can earn five continuing education units (CEUs) for attending this seminar.
The seminar is offered at no charge, but preregistration is requested. For additional information or to register, please visit www.noble.org/events or call 580-223-5810.
