SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Greene County Extension Council is participating in the Give Ozarks 24-hour online day of giving on May 9, but pre-event donations will be accepted.
Individuals can support this local organization by making a secure donation at www.giveozarks.org/2017/greenecoext anytime from midnight to midnight on May 9, 2017. Greene County MU Extension will have the opportunity to win cash prizes throughout the day.
All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS.
Greene County MU Extension is also working with other partners to host a special Give Ozarks Day of events, music and food at the Springfield Botanical Gardens on May 9.
2017 DONATION FOCUS
The 2017 the goal is to raise $5,000 to fund the annual Century Farms educational event and awards banquet. There are 110 farms in Greene County that have remained in the same family for over 100 years.
“This is an important event as we work to encourage families to stay in agriculture and producing food locally,” said David Burton, county program director for Greene County MU Extension.
All donations to Greene County MU Extension fund research-based, low-cost, educational programs that help to improve the lives of 45,000 county residents every year.
“No part of your donation goes to salaries at Greene County MU Extension. But your donation can make a big difference in the lives of your neighbors,” said Burton.
GIVE OZARKS HISTORY
Last year, Greene County Extension raised nearly $4,000 as part of the Give Ozarks campaign. During the 2016 Give Ozarks campaign, over 150 participating agencies raised over $1 million. This year 220 agencies are participating.
Individuals who want to donate to the campaign but do not want to give online need to get checks – made out to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks — to the Greene County Extension Center by May 9. This will make it possible for the checks to count toward the Give Ozarks totals and prizes.
The Greene County Extension Council is an Agency Partner with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, which is hosting Give Ozarks along with presenting sponsor BKD Wealth Advisors; platinum sponsors, The Commerce Trust Co./Coover Charitable Foundation, Edward Jones, the Musgrave Foundation and Ron and Janice Penney, along with numerous other sponsors.
Since 1914, Greene County and area residents have sought help from Extension in areas related to agriculture, gardening, 4H youth, nutrition, families, business and community development and programs like Master Gardeners, Master Naturalilsts, Master Beekeepers and more.
