ARDMORE, Okla. — Growing a variety of specialty crops, including vegetables, tree fruits, small fruits and pecans, offers backyard producers and farmers or ranchers alternative income options from traditional enterprises.
To provide an overview of the basic growing and marketing requirements, the Noble Research Institute will host a seminar, Is Specialty Crop Production for You?, from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, May 10, at the Noble Research Institute Kruse Auditorium.
“While specialty crops offer high profit potential, they also present unique management and marketing challenges,” said Steve Upson, Noble Research Institute senior horticulture consultant. “There are many considerations to make before growing specialty crops. This seminar will help backyard producers and farmers or ranchers decide if specialty crop production is something they can realistically pursue.”
Seminar participants will have the opportunity to learn about the many factors involved in the enterprise decision-making process, including resource requirements, family resource and skill requirements, crop specific production and marketing requirements, and goal setting.
This workshop is open to the public, but preregistration is requested. For more information or to register, please visitwww.noble.org/events or call 580-223-5810.
