WENONA, Ill. — Construction is nearing completion at Sandy Creek Lane, a 5,600 sow breed to wean farm in Marshall County. The farm will be managed by VMC Management, which is providing an open invitation to the surrounding communities to tour the farm.
On Wednesday, April 26th, doors will open at 11:00 am with a ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 11:30 am. Guests are welcome to come for a tour anytime between 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. The Illinois Pork Producers Association will be grilling pork chops. Please enjoy a free lunch served by employees of the farm. The sow farm is located Northwest of Wenona, at 1169 County Rd. 2800 E. Look for open house signs to direct you from the main roads.
Media are welcome to join us at 9:30 am, prior to the open house for a personal tour led by Dr. Nicolas Rippel, DVM. He will lead us through the barns and allow ample time for questions in a one-on-one setting. This is a terrific opportunity to get information and pictures before the barn swells with visitors.
Visitors will experience a full tour of the three barns on the farm. There will be 10 stations with experts at each stop to talk about that specific part of the barn. The tour will take place before any pigs are in the barns to allow time for a deep cleaning before they move in.
