LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (SSAWG) will hold its annual conference on January 23-26 in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Statehouse Convention Center. The theme: Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms.
This will be SSAWG’s 28th annual conference, which serves as a gathering of small and family farmers and people beginning to farm. The emphasis is on organic and sustainable practices. The event also targets farmers, researchers and community leaders serious about creating community food systems.
Topics will cover organic and sustainable vegetable, livestock, flower and specialty crop production and include insights on marketing strategies, urban farming, farm to school programs, business and finance management, community food systems development, in-field and online tools, food safety, useful federal farm programs and agriculture policy developments.
The event offers pre-conference courses and field trips, practical conference sessions, networking and a trade show.
Keynote speaker for 2019 will be Cornelius Blanding, Executive Director of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund. He will address some of the most daunting challenges facing farmers in the South.
Blanding will draw on examples and over 21 years of experience in rural, international and cooperative.
