ATHENS, Ga. — All wheat production in the United States totaled 1.65 billion bushels in 2022, up less than 1 percent from the 2021 total. Area harvested for grain totaled 35.5 million acres, down 4 percent from the previous year. The United States yield was estimated at 46.5 bushels per acre, up 2.2 bushels from the previous year. Winter wheat production for 2022 totaled 1.10 billion bushels, down 14 percent from the 2021 total of 1.28 billion bushels. Oat production was estimated at 57.7 million bushels, up 45 percent from 2021. Â

Alabama: Winter wheat production for 2022, at 8.64 million bushels, was down 5 percent from 2021. Winter wheat planted acreage at 180,000 acres was up 5,000 acres from 2021, while harvested acreage at 120,000 acres was up 10,000 acres from last year. The winter wheat yield for 2022 averaged 72 bushels per acre, down 11 bushels from the previous year. Â
Georgia: Oat production for 2022, at 765,000 bushels, was down 45 percent from 2021. Planted acreage at 75,000 acres and harvested acreage at 15,000 acres were both down 5,000 acres from the previous year. Oat yield for 2022 averaged 51 bushels per acre, down 19 bushels from last year. Winter wheat production for 2022 at 5.80 million bushels, was down 6 percent from 2021. Winter wheat planted acreage at 200,000 acres was down 20,000 acres and harvested acreage at 100,000 acres was down 10,000 acres from the previous year. The winter wheat yield for 2022 averaged 58 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from the previous year.Â
South Carolina: Winter wheat production for 2022 at 5.70 million bushels, was up 8 percent from 2021. Winter wheat planted acreage at 120,000 acres was down 5,000 acres from 2021, while harvested acreage at 100,000 acres was unchanged from last year. The winter wheat yield for 2022 averaged 57 bushels per acre, up 4 bushels from the previous year.Â
