ATHENS, Ga. — Corn production for grain is forecast at 13.7 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast and down 5 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 167.0 bushels per harvested acre, down 1.4 bushels from the previous forecast and down 9.4 bushels from 2018. Soybean production for beans is forecast at 3.55 billion bushels, down slightly from the previous forecast and down 20 percent from last year. All cotton production is forecast at 20.8 million 480-pound bales, down 4 percent from the previous forecast but up 13 percent
from 2018.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the November Crop Production report
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 47.6 million bushels, up 22 percent from 2018. Cotton production is forecast at 1.08 million bales, up 22 percent from 2018. Cotton production, if realized, would be the highest production for the state since 1948. Peanut production is forecast at 581 million pounds, up 12 percent from last month and up 2 percent from 2018. Soybean production is forecast at 9.81 million bushels, down 27 percent from 2018 and if realized would be the lowest since 2011.
Florida: With yield forecast at a record high 930 pounds per acre, cotton production is forecast at 215,000 bales, no change from last month and up 109 percent from last year’s hurricane impacted crop. Cotton production, if realized, would also be a record high. Peanut production is forecast at 636 million pounds, up 3 percent from last month and up 13 percent from 2018. Peanut yield is forecast at 4,100 pounds per acre and if realized would be a new state record. Potato production is forecast at 6.83 million cwt, up 24 percent from 2018. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production is forecast at
18.1 million tons, up 5 percent from 2018.
Georgia: Corn for grain production is forecast at 58.0 million bushels, no change from last month and up 16 percent from last year. Cotton production is forecast at 2.70 million bales, no change from last month and up 38 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 2.84 billion pounds, up 2 percent from last month and down 1 percent from 2018. Soybean production is forecast at 2.47 million bushels, down 52 percent from 2018 and if realized would be the lowest since 1963.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production is forecast at 36.2 million bushels, down 8 percent from 2018. Cotton production is forecast at 500,000 bales, up 6 percent from last month and up 19 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 223 million pounds, down 18 percent from last year. Soybean production is forecast at 9.57 million bushels, no change from last month or 2018
