ATHENS, Ga. — Corn production for grain in the United States is forecast at 13.9 billion bushels, up slightly from the previous forecast but down 8 percent from 2021. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 172.3 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast but down 4.4 bushels from last year. Soybean production for beans is forecast at 4.35 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the previous forecast but down 3 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 50.2 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast but down 1.5 bushels from 2021. All cotton production is forecast at 14.0 million 480-pound bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast but down 20 percent from 2021.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the November Crop Production report
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 36.0 million bushels, down 4 percent from the previous forecast and down 35 percent from 2021. Cotton production is forecast at 800,000 bales, up 8 percent from the previous forecast and up 16 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 636 million pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 4 percent from 2021. Soybean production is forecast at 16.0 million bushels, up 7 percent from the previous forecast and up 14 percent from 2021.
Florida: Cotton production is forecast at 170,000 bales, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 42 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 573 million pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 2 percent from 2021. Potato production is forecast at 4.96 million cwt, down 8 percent from 2021. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production is forecast at 17.4 million tons, up slightly from the previous forecast and up 2 percent from last year.
Georgia: With yield forecast at 168 bushels per acre, corn for grain production is forecast at 64.7 million bushels, down 2 percent from the previous forecast and down 20 percent from last year. Cotton production is forecast at 2.50 million bales, up 4 percent from the previous forecast and up 13 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 2.99 billion pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 10 percent from 2021. With yield forecast at 44.0 bushels per acre, soybean production is forecast at 7.04 million bushels, down 2 percent from the previous forecast but up 13 percent from 2021.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production is forecast at 36.9 million bushels, down 2 percent from the previous forecast and down 30 percent from 2021. Cotton production is forecast at 495,000 bales, up 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 16 percent from last year. With yield forecast at a record high 4,200 pounds per acre, peanut production is forecast at 286 million pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 3 percent from 2021. Soybean yield is forecast at a record high 39 bushels per acre, with soybean production forecast 4 percent higher than last year at 15.2 million bushels.
